She made the call on Saturday while addressing a reunion parade, organised to mark the Regimental Commanders' Conference of the Army’s East Bengal Regiment and ninth Tigers' Reunion at Chittagong Cantonment.

The prime minister also urged the Army members to set highest example of patriotism, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

“Bangladesh Army came to existence through the Liberation War. So I expect highest example of patriotism from you," she said.

Hasina said the East Bengal Regiment was an integral part of her family as her two brothers Sheikh Kamal and Sheikh Jamal served it.

She recalled the role of the regiment in the 1971 Liberation War that five of its battalions fought.
The prime minister said members of the regiment were playing ‘praiseworthy role’ in post-disaster management, infrastructure development and other nation-building activities, besides ‘protecting country's independence and sovereignty’.
“Not only within the country, they are working with honesty, devotion and competence even abroad,” she said.
Hasina said her government was making constant efforts to build ‘capable and modern’ armed forces so that they could discharge their duties with their “head held high” in the international arena.
