He was speaking at the International Palestine Solidarity Day function organised by the Bangladesh Shanti Parishad at the National Press Club on Sunday.

Ramadan thanked the Bangladesh government and people for their unstinted support to the cause of a sovereign Palestine. “We extend our support to the Bangladesh government’s steps to maintain peace by foiling attempts to destabilise the country.”

“But [I] want to emphasise that at the root of terrorist activities is Israel and its allies, who create fear and terror among peace-loving people.”

Information minister Hasanul Huq Inu was present in the programme.

Bangladesh Shanti Parishad Chairman Mozaffar Hossain Poltu presided over the programme, where Liberation War Museum Trustee Sarwar Ali was among the speakers.

Claiming Palestinians were victims of the ‘grave injustice’ done to them by a UN resolution in 1947, Ramadan said, “Its main purpose was to break up Palestine into two states, the bigger of the two being placed under Israeli control and the small one under the Arabs.

But there were far more Arabs then compared to Jews. This way, the UN handed over a parcel of land that it did not own to another nation, depriving the rightful owners. Yet, the rights of that deprived people had been acknowledged four thousand years before Christ.”
