Humayun Azad murder case hearing deferred to Nov 25 due to judge’s leave, absence of witnesses

The trial of writer Humayun Azad murder case has been deferred again, as the judge is on leave and the witnesses were absent.

The witnesses’ depositions will now be held on Nov 25.
 
Dhaka’s Fourth Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ruhul Amin’s court was set to record the statements on Tuesday, but the judge is on leave.
 
The court recorded statements of 36 out of 58 State witnesses until May 7.
 
No other witness’s deposition could be recorded since then, Assistant Public Prosecutor ABM Bashir Uddin Mia told bdnews24.com.
 
The legendary writer and professor of Bangla literature at Dhaka University was hacked on Feb 27, 2004 on the campus when he was returning from the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

Azad, a linguist, went to Germany for research in August that year after treatment. He was found dead in his flat in Munich on Aug 12.

Criminal Investigation Department has named five Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh members in the chargesheet.

The accused are Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Minhaz alias Shafique alias Shaon alias Hamim alias Hashim, Anwarul Alam alias Bhagne Shahid, Nur Mohammad Shamim alias J M Mobin alias Sabu, Salehin alias Salahuddin alias Sajib alias Tawhid and Hafez Mahmud alias Rakib alias Rasel.

Bhagne Shahid and Hafez Mahmud are in jail while Nur Mohammad Shamim is on the run.

Miscreants snatched away Salehin and Mizanur Rahman after attacking a prison van on Feb 23 last year.
