Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has visited the site of an encounter between a separatist Myanmar outfit and a patrol of the Border Guard Bangladesh, a day after the incident in the remote hills of Bandarban’s Thanchi.

BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed accompanied the minister. 

The helicopter carrying them reached Barha Modak, where the firing took place, around 11am on Wednesday,

Major Zahir Uddin Babar of BGB’s Bandarban Sector said security had been beefed up in the sensitive areas along the border after Wednesday’s firing.

He said the BGB was on alert and the situation was under control.

A BGB trooper ‘Zakir’ sustained injuries in the exchange of fire that took place in Thanchi Upazila’s Barha Modak area around 8am on Wednesday.

The Myanmarese rebels retreated from the area after five-hour long intermittent firing when BGB and army launched a joint operation.

Meanwhile, army and police after conducting joint raids for four hours at Rajsthali Upazila’s Taitong Parha between Wednesday night and the wee hours of Thursday arrested an accomplice of the Myanmarese separatist outfit, Arakan Army.

Uniforms of Arakan Army, laptops, digital cameras, motorcycles and two horses were found in the possession of arrested Ong Owong Rakhain (20).
