Medical, dental college admission test brought forward to Sept 18

The health ministry has brought forward the date of the combined medical and dental admission test to Sept 18.

Public Relations Officer of the health ministry Parikkhit Chowdhury told bdnews24.com the date had been revised considering the Eid-ul-Azha vacation.
 
Earlier, Oct 2 had been fixed for the hour-long MCQ exam for entrance to all public and private medical and dental colleges.
 
Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated at the last week of September. 

Traditionally, the holiday mood lingers for long as people go to their village and town homes to celebrate Eid.

Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr Deen Muhammad Nurul Haque told bdnews24.com they rescheduled the date considering the shortage of manpower after Eid.

“Admission process involves huge manpower from printing questions to distribution and finally taking the exam. We have to administer the exam at more than 30 centres across Bangladesh.”

He said they had discussed this post-Eid scenario in the earlier meeting that set Oct 2 as the exam date.

“We have to fix a date considering the availability of exam centres. Now we found centres available on Sep 18,” the director general said.

Details of the admission, Haque said, would be advertised in newspapers shortly but the admission procedure would remain the same.

A combined GPA 8 in SSC and HSC examinations is the prerequisite for anyone to take the medical and dental admission test. 

The minimum marks required to pass the MCQ test is 40.

Bangladesh’s 29 public medical colleges have 3,162 seats for the MBBS course, while 64 private medical colleges have 5,325 seats.

Nine public dental colleges have 532 seats for the BDS course and 24 private dental colleges have 1,280 seats.
