The said incident occurred during the monthly meeting of Ukhia Upazila Parishad on Wednesday, according to witnesses.

The Parishad’s Assistant Engineer Mostafa Minhaz alleged MP Badi first swore and abused the engineer before beating him up.

Awami League’s Ukhia unit President Hamidul Haque Chowdhury said he heard about it all from witnesses.

“They said the incident occurred as the government official did not come to the meeting on time,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Md Ali Hossain said MP Badi went to the engineer’s office with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hillol Biswas when he did not turn up even after someone was send to get him.

“The MP abused him at one stage. Then the assistant engineer attended the meeting,” he said.

He also said Badi could complain to the higher authorities if he had something to say against Minhaz.

He, however, admitted that there were many allegations of negligence of duty against Minhaz as well.

The DC said he ordered the UNO to submit a report on the allegations against the engineer within a week.

Badi, who had allegedly beaten up teachers, lawyers, government and non-government officials before, did not take a call from bdnews24.com.

UNO Biswas, too, could not be reached on phone.
