Bangladesh’s demolition of India in ODI series sparks wild celebrations

Cricket fans across Bangladesh have gone wild to celebrate the first-ever series win by the Tigers against India.

People took out victory parades at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium area in Dhaka’s Mirpur moments after the win.
 
Fireworks lit up the night sky there after the Tigers easily won the second ODI of the series by six wickets under Duckworth-Lewis calculation.
 
Similar celebratory processions were also taken out by people at different areas in the capital as well as other cities and district towns around the country.
 
Students of Dhaka University, the usual hotspot of revellers in the capital, ran out of their residential halls shouting slogans and took out parades on the campus as soon as batsman Sabbir Rahman scored the winning run off Indian spinner Axar Patel.
 
The historic win has now given Bangladesh an unbeatable 2-0 lead.
 
Thousands of DU students thronged the TSC intersection to revel in the ODI series win, which also saw Bangladesh qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy.
 
Many of the students carried the national flag as they danced and chanted slogans.
 
Bangla department student Pintu Ranjan, exhilarated by the win, said, “Bangladesh’s utmost self-confidence has led to today’s victory.”
 
He hoped the Tigers would be able to whitewash India if they can maintain the winning pace.
 
‘Bidyut’, a management department student, said, “This is an extraordinary day in our country’s history.”
 
Some said they hoped the Tigers would provide another opportunity to celebrate by winning the third ODI scheduled for Wednesday – and a ‘Banglawash’ what they said was now a must.
 
A student of international relations, ‘Rimon’ said, “Bangladesh exceeded our expectations. They have proved that they are not weak, not anymore.”
