Bangladeshi-origin British MPs have hit the campaign trail for Labour mayor aspirant John Biggs in the re-election to the Tower Hamlets council.
Newly elected Rushanara Ali, Tulip Siddiq and Rupa Huq solicited votes at Altab Ali Park in the Bengali-dominated East London on Saturday.
The mayoral election of Tower Hamlets, a council with a large Bengali population, will be held on June 11.
The election was called after former mayor Lutfur Rahman was removed from office on charges of corruption and electoral irregularities.
He has been banned from contesting election.
Rahman announced his support for Councillor Rabina Khan, also of Bangladeshi descent, for the mayor’s post.
