Results would be better sans BNP shutdowns, PM Hasina says

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thinks the success rate in SSC and equivalent examinations would have been higher than last year if the BNP-Jamaat alliance had desisted from blockades and shutdowns.

“We registered 91 percent pass rate last year. I wished that would be better this time,” she said.
 
“I know that our children could do better if rescheduling due to blockade and shutdowns could be avoided,” she added.
 
The prime minister greeted the students for posting 87.04 percent success rate. Last year the rate was 91.34 percent.
 
“It was not an easy job to post such success amid the disruptions caused. It’s a big achievement.
 
“I hope the rate would improve in future,” she said.
 

Hasina compared the violence during the protests by BNP and Jamaat to the brutality of the Pakistani occupation during the 1971 Liberation War.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and the chairpersons of the education boards handed over the results to the prime minister at Ganabhaban at 10am.

The exams were scheduled to begin on Feb 1, but were deferred to Feb 6 after the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance announced an indefinite transport blockade.

All the exams were deferred and taken on weekly holidays – Fridays and Saturdays.

The written exams, scheduled to end on Mar 10, ended on Apr 3.
