Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also urged the well-off to put together funds in helping the differently abled to develop skills.

The call came from a meeting of The National Foundation for Development of the Disabled Persons on Wednesday, with the prime minister in the chair.

“Services of the foundation will be expanded to the division, district and Upazila levels in order to provide realistic services to them,” her Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury told reporters.

He said Hasina directed the health ministry to allow persons with disability to get health services from community clinics across the country.

The meeting also decided to construct hostels in divisional cities for the people working with disability.

At the meeting, the prime minister said some 600,000 people with disability would get a monthly allowance of Tk 500 each from the next fiscal year.

At present, 400,000 such people get Tk 350 to Tk 500 in allowance.

The government has established 103 help and service centres for them throughout the country, said Chowdhury.
