It was the first reaction from any ruling party leader after the ‘missing’ BNP joint secretary general called his family from India’s Meghalaya on Tuesday.

Salahuddin called his wife, Hasina Ahmed, from a hospital in Meghalaya two months after he went ‘missing’.

“I have heard that he called his family from Meghalaya. Though late, this is a good news,” Sengupta told reporters.

“I hope he (Salahuddin) will soon return home. These are their (BNP’s) internal matters,” the ruling party’s advisory council member added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had hinted at the BNP’s involvement in Salahuddin’s disappearance.

Sengupta said, “Politics in democracy should be transparent. You cannot do politics from behind-the-scenes.”

According to his family, the BNP joint general secretary went off the grid after he was allegedly picked up by the law-enforcers from the capital’s Uttara on Mar 10.

The government and the law-enforcement agencies had rejected the allegations.
