However, names of three councillors-elect of Dhaka South City Corporation have been dropped from the list.

The list had been sent to the Bangladesh Government Press for print on Thursday night after the EC cleared the gazette, Secretary Md Sirazul Islam told bdnews24.com.

“However, re-election needs to be held at three centres in Dhaka South,” he said.

The gazette came amid the BNP’s demand to scrap the Apr 28 elections and to organise fresh polls.

The BNP, which boycotted the 2014 general election, endorsed candidates for the city polls.

Party chief Khaleda Zia campaigned for BNP-backed candidates in Dhaka.

But the party pulled out midway through the balloting, alleging rigging – a charge the EC has denied.

Secretary Islam said those not happy with the voting could move court.

EC officials said the gazette would be forwarded to the LGRD ministry, which will organise their installation ceremony within 30 days of the gazette publication.

The prime minister will administer the oath of the mayors, while divisional commissioners will swear in the councillors.

Those included in the gazette are Dhaka North mayor-elect Annisul Huq, 36 councillors, 12 reserved seat councillors; Dhaka South mayor-elect Sayeed Khokon and 54 councillors (excluding ward numbers eight, 34 and 53); and Chittagong’s mayor-elect AJM Nasir Uddin, 41 councillors and 14 reserved seat councillors.

Violence forced the cancellation of voting at three centres in as many wards in Dhaka South’s Suritola, Ashraf Uddin school and Kamalapur school.

Re-election will be held at these centres.

CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad met the three returning officers on Thursday afternoon before meeting the election commissioners in the evening.

EC officials say several councillor aspirants took part in the polls on obtaining court orders after their nominations were scrapped. Seven such candidates have won.

Secretary Islam said the commission would appeal against these councillors-elect.
