6-storey building tilts in Old Dhaka after earthquake

A building in Old Dhaka’s Bangshal area has tilted to one side due to Saturday's earthquake, say police.

However, no casualties have been reported.

The building no. 249/1 at Bangshal is occupied by shoe and bag manufacturers.

Bangshal Police Station’s OC Abdul Kuddus said the building has tilted towards another building next to it.

After informed by the locals, the police evacuated the whole building and locked it up, he said.

Around 12:11pm Saturday a massive tremor was felt in the capital and in many other areas of Bangladesh. 

According to USGS, the earthquake measuring 7.9 magnitude had its epicentre 29km south-east of Nepal’s Lamjung.

The Meteorological Department stated the epicentre of the earthquake was 745 km north-west of Bangladesh.
