Rangpur Medical College shut down indefinitely after BCL clash leaves 10 injured

Rangpur Medical College authorities have shut down the institution indefinitely following a factional clash of ruling Awami League’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Principal Dr Zakir Hossain told bdnews24.com the decision asking all students to leave dormitories by 3pm on Wednesday was taken at a hurried meeting of the Academic Council following the violence.

“10 people were injured in the clash over new year festivities on Tuesday night between two factions of Chhatra League unit of Dr Mukta Hostel.

The situation was controlled  by the university administration and police,” said Golam Kibria, Sub Inspector of Dhap Police Camp near the college.

Of the injured, Shahiduzzaman Shahid, ‘Asad’ and Ashik Ferdous were admitted to the college’s hospital. Rest were released after first aid.

Additional police have been deployed at the campus and the situation is currently calm, the principal said.
