The foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that Bangladesh hoped the parties concerned would strike a final and comprehensive deal to be negotiated by June this year.

Iran and five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (the P5+1) reached in an agreement on the key parameters of a ‘Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action’ in their meeting in Lausanne on Thursday.

The tentative agreement clears the way for talks on a future comprehensive settlement.

“Bangladesh believes that this understanding would contribute to regional peace and stability and would reaffirm the importance of dialogue for peaceful resolution of disputes,” read the foreign ministry statement.

Iran had been facing sanctions from the UN, the US and the European Union over its nuclear programme.
