Police have raided the house of a local Juba Dal leader and recovered four guns and ammunition in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.
The raid was conducted near Jahanabad at around 11pm Monday, said Lakshmipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman.
The accused, Farid Uddin, is the senior vice president of the Upazila Juba Dal, said Alamgir Hossain, the general secretary of the BNP’s youth front.
SP Rahman told the reporters that Farid had several cases, including that of murder, against him.
He had been arrested once over charges of murder. However, he got out on bail a month ago.
“Following a tip-off, police raided Farid’s house expecting to catch him with his gang. But they fled before police reached.”
Four guns and about 50 rounds of ammunition were seized from there, said Rahman.
A case has been filed under the Arms Act at the Upazila’s Sadar Police Station.
