Truck driver burnt alive by bombers at Chandpur

A truck driver has been burnt alive by petrol bombers in Chandpur amid the BNP-led alliance’s blockade and shutdown.

Police say three others suffered severe burns in the attack at Chandpur Sadar on Wednesday night.

The injured are driver’s assistant ‘Rubel’, 35 and cow traders ‘Khorshed’, 30 and ‘Sharif’, 38.

They were rushed to Dhaka at night from Chandpur Sadar Hospital.

Conditions of the injured were critical, the sadar hospital’s doctor Shirajul Islam told bdnews24.com.

The deceased, Md Jahangir, 40, hailed from Jessore’s Jhikargacha.

He died on the spot after the bomb exploded on truck’s front side, said Chandpur Superintendant of Police Md Amir Jafar.

The paper-laden truck was going from Chittagong to Jessore.

“The truck had earlier brought cows from Jessore to Chittagong. The two cow traders were returning to Jessore,” said Chandpur Sadar Model Police OC Abdul Kayum.

“We have not been able to arrest any of the attackers so far,” Kayum added.

Arsonists have also attacked another good-laden truck at Raghunathpur on Wednesday night.

Driver Amanat Khan, 40, and his assistant Kalu Bepari, 22, sustained injuries while trying to jump out of the vehicle.

They are admitted to Chandpur Sadar Hospital.
