Five including Pakistani nabbed in Ctg

Five persons including a Pakistani citizen have been nabbed from Chittagong and police suspects they are militants.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police's (CMP) Additional Commissioner (crime) Banaj Kumar Majumder told bdnews24.com that those detained are being questioned.

Police detained the five from 'Hotel Lord's Inn' at the port city's Nasirabad area.

They are Mohammad Alam, Abdul Majid, Mohammad Amin, Mohammad Salamat Ullah and Shafi Ullah.

CMP Detective Branch Deputy Commissioner Kusum Dewan said Alam is a Pakistan national. His passport has been confiscated.

Alam is the director of voluntary organisation Global Rohingya Centre, the headquarters of which is in the Netherlands, added the Detective Branch official.

Ethnic clashes forced many Rohingyas in Myanmar to enter Bangladesh in the last two decades. Apart from the 34,000 registered refugees at the camps in Cox's Bazar, there are another 200,000 to 300,000 Rohingyas currently in Bangladesh, says the government.

There are allegations that some Rohingyas, are involved in criminal activities abroad by obtaining Bangladeshi passports.

Indian intelligence officials recently arrested Rohingya Solidarity Organisation member Khalid Mohammad alias Khalid from Hyderabad over the Oct 2 Burdwan blast in West Bengal.

According to them, Khalid has confessed to receive militant training from Pakistan's Tehrik-e-Insaf on behalf of Myanmar outfit Tehrek-e-Azadi Arakan.
