IT engineers exam now in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has secured the membership of Japan-based Information Technology Professional Examination Council (ITPEC).

An agreement was signed to this effect between Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Information Technology Promotion Agency (ITPA) of Japan on Monday in Dhaka.

BCC Executive Editor SM Ashfaq Hossain and ITPA Vice-Chairman Hisya Tanaka penned the deal.

The government expects the ITPEC membership will help Bangladesh to enhance knowledge and skills of the workforce in information technology sector.

Under ITPEC, a common Information Technology Engineers Examination (ITEE) is conducted for the council member-countries to judge the IT knowledge and skills of their nationals.

A country needs IETPEC membership to introduce and conduct the exams.

Presently, IETEE certificates are recognised in Japan, India, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korean, the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique, and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak spoke at the agreement ceremony.

Siddique said Bangladesh secured a new identity through the IETPEC membership, which would take the country a long way to be a ‘Digital Bangladesh’.

Palak expected Bangladesh to soon start export of IT manpower.

BCC has formulated the organogram of an institution -- Bangladesh IT Engineers Examination Centre -- to conduct the IETEE tests.

Two IETEE tests have been conducted in Bangladesh – one in October last year and the other in April this year – under a project aided by the Japan government.

Bangladesh has been given the full membership after it showed its institutional skill for conducting the exams.

From now on, the exams will be conducted in Bangladesh regularly.
