Tuba owner to pay workers for July on Sunday

Tuba Group owner Delwar Hossain has agreed to pay his workers their wages and overtime for July on Sunday.

He gave this assurance during a meeting with Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) board of directors at the National Parliament Complex on Saturday.

The workers were also expected to get their Eid bonuses soon.

“It was decided that unpaid wages and overtime for July, amounting to Tk 11.7 million, would be paid to workers of the Tuba Group’s five factories tomorrow (Sunday),” BGMEA Vice President SM Mannan Kochi told bdnews24.com after the meeting.

The wages will be paid at the BGMEA office from 2pm on Sunday.

This was decided in another meeting with 35 workers' bodies, said BGMEA President Atiqul Islam.

Thousands of workers from Tuba Group factories have been agitating for their three months’ unpaid wages, overtime dues and bonuses.

Tuba Group’s owner, Delwar Hossain was released from jail after securing bail in a case concerning the death of over one hundred workers in a fire at the Group's owned factory of Tazreen Fashions in 2012.
