LK Siddiqui laid to rest

BNP leader and former minister LK Siddiqui has been laid to rest at Sitakunda Upazila in Chittagong.

He was buried at his family graveyard at Dakshin Rahmatnagar under the Upazila on Saturday evening following the sixth funeral prayers.

Pro-BNP Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) former president Khurshid Zamil Chowdhury told bdnews24.com people of all walks life joined the prayer irrespective of political affiliations.

Earlier, the fifth funeral prayer for Siddiqui, also a former deputy speaker of Parliament, was held at the Sitakunda High School ground in the afternoon.

Siddiqui’s body was flown to Chittagong on Saturday noon on a Regent Air plane. BNP central committee Vice-chairman Abdullah Al Nonan received the body at the airport.

From the airport, the body was taken to the Jomiatul Falah National Mosque ground in Chittagong city where the third funeral prayer was held.
The fourth prayer was held at Agrabad Jamburi ground in the afternoon.

Siddiqui passed away at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital on Friday. He was 75.

His body was flown back home in a Biman Bangladesh flight and taken to a mortuary on Saturday.

The first funeral prayer for the late BNP leader was held at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka and the second one in the Parliament building’s South Plaza.

Siddiqui left behind his wife Mahmuda Siddiqui and three sons and a daughter.

He was elected MP from Sitakunda four times on BNP ticket.

Siddiqui was the deputy speaker of the sixth parliament, state minister for power during Ziaur Rahman’s regime, and water resources minister during two terms of Khaleda Zia’s premiership.

His younger brother YB Siddiqui was the inspector general of police.
