A bomb exploded during the Pahela Baishakh celebrations at the Ramna Batamul in 2001, killing 10 people.

Harkatul Jihad (HuJi) top leader Abdul Hannan and 14 other militants were accused of being responsible for the explosion.

According to the case details, the accused targeted the Pahela Baishakh event since they considered it ‘anti-Islamic’.

Nine people were killed on the spot and another died in hospital.

Police filed two cases that day, one for murder and another under Explosives Act.

The Explosives Act case is still under trial.

Charges were framed against 14 people eight years after the explosion.
