City traffic curbs for new year

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have imposed traffic restrictions from 5am to 9pm in some parts of the capital on Monday in view of the Bengali New Year — Pahela Baishakh - celebrations.

Vehicles will not be allowed on the Bangla Motor-Shahbagh-Matsya Bhaban-Segunbagicha, Hotel Sheraton-Kakrail Mosque, Nilkhet-TSC and Palashi-Central Shaheed Minar roads during this time because of programmes at Ramna Park and on the Dhaka University campus.

All crossings to Dhaka University entry points would remain closed, says a DMP press release issued on Sunday.

For traffic on the Mirpur-Gulistan-Jatrabarhi route, drivers have been requested to use Bangla Motor-Moghbazar-Malibagh road and the one in front of Hotel Sonargaon.

Vehicles on the Mohammadpur-Gulistan route will use the Science Laboratory-Nilkhet-Bakshibazar-Chankharpool road, it added.

Banglamotor-Old Elephant Road-Telecommunications Bhaban crossing-Ruposhi Bangla crossing; PG crossing-Matsya Bhaban-Kadamphul crossing; Ruposhi Bangla crossing-Minto Road-Bailey Road-Hare Road-Kakrail Mosque crossing-Church crossing-Matsya Bhaban crossing; Nilkhet crossing-TSC crossing; Palashi intersection-Shahid Minar-Doel Chattar- Bakshibazar-Jagannath Hall.

Roads to be use for car parking

T&T Gap-Old Elephant Road; Curzon Hall-Abdul Kani Road; Curzon Hall-Phulbaria; Matsya Bhaban-Segunbagicha; Bailey Road (VIP car parking); Kataban-Palashi; and Minto Road (media car parking).
