Nazrul to get water resources

Nazrul Islam Hiru said he will be placed in the Ministry of Water Resources after taking oath as minister of state on Wednesday.

Jatiya Party’s presidium member Anisul Islam Mahmud is currently Minister of Water Resources.

“I will be responsible for water resources ministry,” the retired lieutenant colonel told bdnews24.com. “I want to take up the challenge and work in this vital ministry.”

“The prime minister told me I have to take the responsibility and work accordingly after I took oath.”

He said sorting out complications involving common rivers of India and Bangladesh was his priority.

President Abdul Hamid administered the oath to him to office along with HM Mahmood Ali of Dinajpur-4.

The Cabinet now has 51 members after these two have been inducted.

Previously, a 49-strong three-tier cabinet had taken oath on Jan 12.

The MP from Narsinghdi-1 said he was ‘happy’ with the duty he received.

“I am especially looking forward to working with Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud,” he added.
Nazrul Islam Hiru was bestowed the title of ‘Bir Protik’ for his contribution during Bangladesh’s War of Independence.
Born in Narsinghdi in 1951, he graduated (PSC) from Command and Staff College of the Armed Forces in 1985.
He served as Assistant Military Advisor at Bangladesh High Commission in the US.
He entered Parliament for the first time after winning in the 2008 election. Nazrul was a member of the standing committee for Planning Ministry in the 9th Assembly.
