His statement came on Monday after the media published pictures of armed leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of the ruling Awami League, during agitations of general students on the campus on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at his Secretariat office, the state minister said: “Who wields arms is a terrorist, not student. He doesn’t belong to any political party.”

A group of armed Chhatra League activists attacked students at Rajshahi University who were on strike against fee hike and evening courses.

About the incident, Kamal said: “Investigation is going on. Stern actions will be taken against those found guilty.”

“Who attacked the students, where their arms have gone, who played what role in the movement – all are being looked into,” he added.

He said the government was firm on keeping educational institutions out of use of arms.

The university has formed an investigation committee. Chhatra League has also formed a separate committee to investigate it.
