Flood of new faces in Cabinet

The new Hasina cabinet will have a new look -- well and true.

At least 27 new faces will make up the Cabinet, the third headed by Awami League in two decades.

Awami League leader from Chittagong Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and leader of a Jatiya Party faction Anwar Hossain Monju are going to be in the Cabinet.

They were both ministers during the 1996-2001 term of Awami League but not in the last cabinet.

Sheikh Hasina's is going to include veteran party leaders, Mohammad Nasim and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.

Both were ministers when the Awami League took office in 1996 but were dropped in 2009.

Anisul Haque and Asaduzzaman Noor are set to be ministers for the first time. Other new faces are Md Sayedul Haque, Syed Mohsin Ali and Shamsur Rahman.

Yeafesh Osman, Mostafizur Rahman Fizar and Meher Afroz Chumki are set to return after being dropped from the polls-time interim Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Chittagong's veteran Awami League leader late Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu's son Saifuzzaaman Chowdhury Zabed, Jahid Malek, Junaid Ahmed Polok, Ismat Ara, Shahriar Alam, Narayan Chandra Chanda, Biren Shikder, Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, MA Mannan, Bir Bahadur, Mirza Azam, Emaj Uddin Pramanik and Asaduzzaman Khan are likely to be inducted as ministers of state .

Former national football team captain Arif Khan Joy and Abdullah Al Islam Jacob are likely to be inducted as deputy ministers. Mohammad Shaheb Ali Matubbor and Principal Matiur Rahman are also likely to be inducted as deputy ministers.

All of them have been driven to the Bangabhaban in government cars. Officials of the Cabinet Division have arrived at the President's residence.

President Md Abdul Hamid is scheduled to administer the oath to the ministers at 3.30pm in Bangabhaban.

The Prime Minister first takes the oath and then other ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers.

Cabinet Division Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan had said earlier that the portfolio of the minister will be distributed by Sunday and the Prime Minister's advisors will also take charge.
