She left for the presidential palace from her Gulshan residence around 5pm with her entourage. Her convoy reached the main gate of Bangabhaban around 45 minutes later.

The white Nissan Patrol carrying the Leader of the Opposition entered the presidential palace around 6:15pm.

DMP Motijheel division Deputy Commissioner Md Ashrafuzzaman told bdnews24.com that Khaleda Zia had arrived 30 minutes earlier than her scheduled appointment.

"That’s why she was waiting. We did not stop her," he said.

Her entourage which includes representatives of the member parties including from Jamaat-e-Islami of the 18-Party alliance had entered Bangabhaban before her.

Khaleda's visit comes amid speculations about the Opposition seeking President Abdul Hamid’s intervention to end the political impasse over the polls-time dispensation, over which the two rival alliances have been at loggerheads.

This is the first time the Opposition Leader is visiting the President since he assumed office on Apr 24 this year.
