"We are determined to hold the polls on schedule, within the three month period between Oct 24 and Jan 24," Hasina told the nation in her Friday address.

"But before I finalise the schedule for the polls, I would like detailed consultation and I want advice from the Opposition. We have to meet the Constitutional requirements, but it is best done when we discuss the details with all," she said.

There is much difference in perception over what happens after the tenure of the present government ends on Oct 24.

The Prime Minister has said the parliament can continue to be in session until elections are announced, but the opposition says no session is possible after Oct 24.
