Mother sues 4 over Saju murder

The mother of Saju Palit, who died during an armed battle between Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jatiya Juba Leader in Chittagong last month, has filed a case.

Minoti Palit lodged the case accusing four people at the court of Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Moshiur Rahman on Sunday.

Saju’r brother Utpal Palit told bdnews24.com the four includes Ajit Biswas and ‘Pintu’.

The court has accepted the case but ordered police to proceed along with the investigation of a previous case, he said.

On June 24, two groups of ruling Awami League’s student and youth wings had engaged in a shootout at the port city’s CRB Saatrasta intersection near railway’s eastern headquarters over a Tk 4.8 million Feni Railway Station renovation tender.

Eight-year old Arman Hossain and Juba League activist Saju had died after they were hit by bullets at the scene of the encounter.

After the incident, Saju’s family had said that he had gone out with Ajit in the morning.

Police had filed their case of riot and murder against 87 people. They also arrested 59 people including Chhatra League central committee Assistant Secretary Saiful Alam Limon and Juba League central committee member Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar.

They were remanded several times in the case.

Both Limon and Babar were expelled from their organisations following the clashes.
