Minor killed in armed clash

Two, including an eight-year old minor, were killed in an armed clash between two groups over a railway tender bid in the port city of Chittagong on Monday.

Arman Hossain, 8, and Saju Palita, 24, died in the clash that took place at CRB Satrasta intersection near railway’s eastern headquarters around 12 noon, Kotwali Police Station Inspector Nezamuddin said.

The stand-off between the two groups over the railway tender snowballed into a clash of arms leading to exchange of fire, the inspector said. “Around 20 rounds were fired.”

A stray bullet hit minor 'Arman', who died on the spot.

A pedestrian 'Saju' too was hit. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Witnesses said two factions of ruling Awami League’s student affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League were involved in the clash.

Police said it was verifying claims made by witnesses.

The tender was for renovation of Feni Railway Station at the cost of Tk 4.8 million.
