In a media statement on Sunday, the organisations that uphold the spirit of the Liberation War described Rahman as ‘enemy of the people’ and said the calls to free him surprised and appalled them.

Those who issued the statement include Sectors Commanders Forum Senior Vice Chairman Major General KM Shafiullah, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Nasir Uddin Yusuf Bachchu, Acting President of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir and Peshajibi Samannay Parishad General Secretary Dr Qamrul Islam Khan.

Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahaman is being taken to Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court after arrest in three cases on Thursday .

Editors of 15 dailies and an online news portal on Saturday issued a press statement in which they also said both the Islamic TV and Diganta TV should be allowed back on air and Amar Desh should to hit the news-stands again.
The editors who signed the statement were Daily Independent’s Mahbubul Alam, Samokal’s Golam Sarowar, Prothom Alo’s Motiur Rahman, New Age’s Nurul Kabir, Daily News Today’s Riaz Uddin Ahmed, Kaler Kantha’s Imdadul Haque Milon, Daily Star’s Mahfuz Anam, Daily Sangbad’s Acting Editor Muniruzzaman and Manabjamin’s Motiur Rahman Chowdhury.
The incident stirred a storm on the social media website Facebook and Internet blogs.
The leaders of the four organisations said Rahman pushed the country towards conflict and confused people by resorting to outright falsehood over the Ka’aba in Saudi Arabia.
They also slated him for publishing stories and photographs in which death convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was described to be seen in the Moon.
They said he was continuously running false and misleading news only to spoil the communal harmony in the country, blaming him for instigating quarters to launch attacks on the Hindu monirities in Bangladesh.
