This happened at Rajnagar Upazila’s Kharparha on Sunday night, police said.
Rajnagar Police Station OC and two other policemen were injured in the attack.
Kulaura’s Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Alamgir Hossain said Jamaat-Shibir supporters attacked the police when they were coming back with Jamaat activists Shahab Uddin and Tanim Ahmed who are accused in a case.
A group of around 25 Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked the police with sharp weapons and snatched away the two détenus.
Rajnagar police OC Nazim Uddin, Sub Inspector Abul Hossain and Constable Mozammel Haq were admitted to the Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet for treatment of their wounds.
A police team, led by ASP Hossian, later conducted a raid and detained Shahab Uddin and Tanim Ahmed. Fourteen others were detained for suspected involvement in the attack.
Both Shahab Uddin and Tanim Ahmed are accused in a case filed for an assault on Chhatra League supporters at Rajnagar after Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death on war crimes charges.
The ASP said they were preparing to file a case against them.
