‘Present social issues in films’

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday urged the filmmakers to highlight in movies the social problems apart from its ‘rich history, culture and the glorious Liberation War’.

“It has to be ensured that the viewers will go back home with some teachings, some messages that they can apply in their families and societies,” she said while distributing the National Film Award-2011 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the afternoon.

She termed the filmmakers creative and popular persons and said their responsibilities to society and people are greater than others as “the people follow you”.

The National Film Award recipients are Abdur Razzak (lifetime achievement), Ferdous Ahmed (best actor-Kusum Kusum Prem), Joya Ahsan (best actress-Guerrilla), MA Alamgir (best supporting actor), Farida Akter Babita (best supporting actress-Ke Apon Ke Por), Habib Wahid (best music director-Projapati), Dr Muhammad Jafar Iqbal (best story writer-Amar Bandhu Rashed), Nasir Uddin Yusuf (best play writer and best scriptwriter-Guerrilla), Ibadur Rahman (best play writer-Guerrilla), Kumar Bishwajit (best male singer-Ma Amar Chokher Moni), Nazmul Munira Nancy (best female singer-Projapati), Shafique Tuhin (best lyrist-Projapati), Imon Saha (best composer-Kusum Kusum Prem), L Apu Rosario (best cameraman-Amar Bandhu Rashed), Ratan Paul (best record man-Amar Bandhu Rashed), Samir Ahmed (best editor-Guerrilla), Animesh Aich (best art director-Guerrilla), Mohammad Ali Babul (best makeup man-Guerrilla) and Shimul Yusuf (best costume designer-Guerrilla).

‘Albadar’ received the award as the best documentary film.

The Prime Minister urged the filmmakers to make movies for children.

She said it was possible to inculcate the sense of good and bad, fair and unfair, beautiful future dream and hope in the minds of the children through films.

“Combining sound, colours, story, songs and pictures, movies will be an attractive media for the children, I hope.”

Describing films as one of the main mass media, Hasina said it had the power to influence people. “So movies are a powerful weapon to disseminate knowledge, build the nation and society and expand education.”
