Hundreds of readymade garments workers have blocked the busy Dhaka-Tangail highway following rumours of the death of a fellow worker in a road accident in Gazipur.

Locals rushed the injured worker, who was on her way to work, to Matricchhaya Clinic in Konabari, said SI Saiful Islam of the Mouchak Police Outpost.
Islam said scores of workers from several factories took to the streets as the rumour of her death spread.
The workers, still on the road, fought with the police who tried to chase them away.
Konabari highway police Inspector Alamgir Hossain said the police fired several rounds of rubber bullets and teargas during the clashes.
