Metropolitan Magistrate MA Salam gave the order in the afternoon.

The seven were arrested on Sunday from the bank’s Mirpur branch. They are the bank’s Vice-President Shaheedul Haque, Mirpur branch Senior Principal Officer Hassan Mahmud Mithu, Asif Junayed, ‘Hasanul’, Kafiluddin, Noor Alam and Robiul Islam.

Presenting them before the court, the investigation officer sought a five-day remand for grilling them over the alleged funding while the lawyers for the accused pleaded for their bail.

The magistrate rejected both the remand and bail pleas and ordered the accused into jail.

Jamaat has been carrying out different programmes, often violent, since the beginning of the trial of its top leadership on charges of crimes against humanity perpetrated during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.
