Govt makes massive police reshuffle

The government on Tuesday gave a major shake-up to the high level of police to rev the force.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in two circulars said changes were brought to 72 senior positions.

The shuffle came only after a day the force came under attacks from the Jamaat-e-Islami activists in the capital, Dhaka, and several other places across the country.

Nine Additional Deputy Inspectors General (ADIG) were made DIG. Commissioner of Police for Sylhet Metropolitan Amulya Bhushan Barua was brought to Dhaka and was deputed as a DIG (telecom).

Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Monirul Islam has been made Joint Commissioner (current charges) with the rank and status of an ADIG.

Of the ADIGs, two were brought to Dhaka from outside of the capital. Five from the Dhaka office were transferred to different districts. One from Rajshahi was transferred to Sylhet.

Dhaka’s Joint Commissioner of Police Mohammad Shahab Uddin was transferred to PBI, Dhaka; PTC Noakhali Commandant Shaibal Kanti Chowdhury to CID in Dhaka; Rangpur range’s Mohammad Lutfar Rahman Mondol to Police Headquarters and Joint Commissioners of Police in Dhaka Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hasan and Mohammad Ibrahim Fatemi were promoted to Additional Commissioners of Police.

Rajshahi range’s Nibas Chandra Majhi was sent to Sylhet SMP; Specialised Security and Protection Battalion officer in Dhaka Mohammad Rafiqul Islam was transferred to Special Branch and Rajshahi’s Monir-uz-Zaman was made the Commissioner of Police, current charges, in Rajshahi.

Apart from these officials, SB’s Special Superintendent Sarder Tamij Uddin was transferred to CID in Dhaka while Dhaka’s Traffic Enforcement Officer Sheikh Omar Faruk was made the Rangpur PTC Commandant.

The second circular read that offices of six ADIGs were changed. Of them, one was sent to Rajshahi from Dhaka while another one was brought to the capital from Rajshahi.

Of the ADIGs, three - Begum Rowshan Ara, SM Kamal Hossain and Mohammad Fazlur Rahman - are from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). They were transferred to Dhaka Railway Range, Highway Police and Police Staff College, respectively.

Police Headquarters’ ADIG M Khurshid Hossain was transferred to Rajshahi Range; SB Special Superintendent Mohammad Majharul Islam, who was recently promoted to ADIG, to Dhaka SB branch and Sardah Police Academy’s ADIG Mohammad Mozammel Hossain was sent to Police Staff College, Dhaka.

Also, 50 AIG level officers were transferred. Of them, five have been sent out of the capital.
