Fire in 'Smart' garment factory
Three owners of the “Smart” garment factory, where seven workers died during a fire on Saturday, have been sued for negligence.
Altaf Hossain, father of garment worker Razia, killed in the fire, filed a complaint on Saturday midnight with Mohammadpur Police Station.
Mohammadpur Police station OC (Investigations) said that complaint alleges criminal negligence on part of the management that led to the fire and the deaths.
The complaint has named Subhas, Mohammed Sharif and Zakir Ahmed, but some of the accused have not been named.
Fire broke out in a store of the double-storeyed factory of “Smart” garments at Beribadh in Mohammadpur. Several workers trying to rush out were crushed under a stampede or suffocated in the smoke.
