He briefed journalists after the Indian Ambassador to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran called on him in the morning and briefed him about Delhi’s position on the issue.

“The Indian government has officially regretted the killing of Bangladeshi nationals after preliminary enquiry,” said Mohiuddin.

Though it was not specified which incidents of border killing had been investigated by India, Mohiuddin said the whole situation on the border would be closely monitored so that no incident of killing occurred.

“Border killings are regrettable and painful. We agreed on principle with the Indian Home Minister last month that there would be no firing along the border unless it was a question of self defence,” Alamgir said.

But he said that the incidents that happened after his meeting with the Indian Home Minister Sushil Shinde were being investigated.

“The Bangladesh government is concerned over the incidents of border killing,“ he said

The Indian Ambassador met the minister ahead of the forthcoming visit of the Indian Home Minister to Bangladesh.
