The Jagannath University on Thursday expelled four more students for their alleged involvement in the murder of Biswajit Das during the Opposition's Dec 9 countrywide road blockade programme.

The expelled students are Psychology Department student Mohammad Qaiyum Mia Tipu, Chemistry Department's Rajon Talukder, and History Department students Mohammad Saiful Islam and GM Raseduzzaman Shawon.

A university press release issued on Thursday said the action against the four had been taken as its investigation report found their involvement in the murder.

Of them, only Rajon Talukder remains at large.

Biswajit, who ran a tailoring shop, was beaten and hacked to death during the 18-Party Alliance programme on Dec 9.

Reports and footages in the media identified the assailants as activists of the pro-government Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Jagannath University unit.

However, the government said none of the accused was linked to the Awami League.

Earlier, the university took action against five of its students on Dec 12 for their alleged involvement in the murder.

Obhidul Quader Tahsin, a fourth-year student of the Psychology Department, Rafiqul Islam Shakil, a sixth-semester student of the History Department and Noore Alam Limon, Masters student of the Political Science Department, were expelled.

The university authorities also cancelled the certificates of Emdadul Haque of the Philosophy Department and Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid of the Bangla Department.

Both Shakil and Nahid are currently behind bars.
