Doctors say the photographer is in a critical condition after massive brain injuries

Dhaka, Nov 30 (bdnews24.com) – Doctors say the senior photographer Bijon Sarkar is in a critical condition after serious injuries from a road accident.
He has been undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of City Hospital in the capital for last eight days. He had received injuries in his head, and bled profusely.
"He (Bijon Sarkar) is in a critical condition. He suffered hemorrhage at a sensitive spot in his brain (brain stem)," Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) neurosurgeon Prof Kanak Kanti Barua told bdnews24.com after visiting him.
The photographer's head is swelling. Barua said he needed a surgery. "This is a life-saving process."
Meanwhile, there have been calls for government support for his treatment.
Actor and theatre activist Shankar Shaojal said an application had been sent to the Prime Minister's Office seeking help.
"The Cultural Ministry, Information Ministry and Health Ministry have also been approached."
Photographer Golam Mostafa, an ex-director of Bangladesh Television's (BTV), expressed his concerns over the treatment Sarkar is being given and said he expected "government steps to ensure proper treatment of one of the pioneer photographers of Bangladesh".
