Sagar-Runi murder: DNA of others found

Tests in US laboratories found presence of other people at the crime scene.

Dhaka, Aug 24 (bdnews24.com)—DNA tests in laboratories in the US have found presence of other people at the crime scene where journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were killed early this year, a RAB official says.
RAB said they were optimistic about identifying the killers after matching those with the DNA profiles of the suspects.
"The US laboratory has emailed us that they have found presence of people other than Sagar and Runi in the samples we had send there," RAB spokesperson Commander M Sohail told bdnews24.com
He said two US private laboratories were testing DNA samples of Sagar adding that the full report would take another month.
Sohail said the laboratories were conducting numerous DNA tests to be certain about the presence of more people at the crime scene.
He, however, did not say how many people were believed to be present there according to the test.
"We are making a list of suspects. We will later call them to match their DNA samples with those sent by the US laboratories."
He said the DNA report will assist to crack the mystery over the killing.
Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar and ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Runi were killed in their own flat at Rajabazar on Feb 11 .
The High Court on Apr 18 vented its frustration over the Detective Branch of police's failure in identifying the killer and ordered transfer of the case to RAB.
No arrests have been made.
