PM presents Independence Award 2012

Dhaka, Mar 25 (bdnews24.com) -- Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday handed over the most prestigious state award -- the Independence Award 2012 -- at a function at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
Ten of the country's distinguished personalities have received the coveted award in recognition of their contributions to various fields.
The recipients are - lieutenant commander Moazzem Hossain (posthumous), Abul Kalam Shamsuddin (posthumous), Dr Syeda Badrun Nahar Chowdhury, lyricist and freedom fighter Noyeem Gahar, vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University professor Pran Gopal Datta, educationist professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, former vice chancellor of Chittagong University Abul Fazal (posthumous), agricultural scientist Dr Kazi M Badruddoza, journalist Bazlur Rahman (posthumous) and physiologist Dr Quamrul Haider.
Receipents of Independence Award 2012 got an 18 carret gold medal weighing 50 grams, Tk 0.2 million and a citation.
Cabinet secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan moderated the function.
