Dhaka, Feb 21 (bdnews24.com) β€” Four journalist organisations will hold rallies across the country on Wednesday demanding arrest and trial of those responsible for the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Leaders of the organisations had announced the programme on Feb 18 at a press briefing at the capital's National Press Club after a joint meeting.
The organisations are Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), National Press Club and Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).
According to the schedule, a rally would be held in front of the National Press Club at 11am. Local journalist organisations across the country would also stage similar programmes.
On Feb 11, Maasranga Television news editor Golam Mostofa Sarowar, alias Sagar Sarowar, and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Nahar Runi, were found murdered at their flat in the city's west Rajabazar area.
Although after 48 hours of the incident, inspector general of police (IGP) Hassan Mahmood Khandker had claimed "remarkable progress" in solving the Sagar-Runi murder riddle, the police are yet to find any clue to the murder and identify or arrest anyone.
Fixing Feb 22 as the deadline, the journalist organisations had also warned that tougher protest programmes would be held unless the killers are arrested.
