Dhaka, Feb 13 (bdnews24.com) – Prime minister Sheikh Hasina promised full assistance on Monday for Mahin Sarowar Megh, the five-year-old son of the slain journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
The assurance came when relatives of Sagar and Runi met her at her official residence, prime minister's special assistant (media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil told reporters.
Shakil quoted the prime minister as telling them: "As long as I'm alive, there will be no problem of livelihood and education of Megh. I can feel the pain of losing near ones."
The prime minister also assured the next of kin that the killers will be arrested and put on trial.
The relatives who met her included Sagar's mother Saleha Munir and brother-in-law Abul Hossain Chowdhury and Runi's sister Rokhsana Javed Belim, brothers Nowshad Alam Rajon and Nowsher Alam Ripon and brother-in-law Javed Omar Belim.
She took Megh upon her lap and caressed him.
Maasranga Television news editor Sagar and ATN Bangla senior reporter Runi were murdered in the early hours of Saturday at their rented flat in west Rajabazar in the capital.
Megh found his parents dead in their bedroom and called up his grandmother to give the news. He was at home at the time of killing and told police that two people killed his parents whom he had seen earlier at a picnic.
