Dhaka, Jan 13 (bdnews24.com) – Writer Humayun Ahmed has been made senior special adviser to the Bangladesh Mission to the United Nations.
His publisher Majharul Islam told bdnews24.com on Friday that the writer, filmmaker had received an appointment letter to this effect on Jan 10.
Humayun Ahmed, one of the most celebrated contemporary writers in Bengali literature, was taken to USA in September last year to treat a colon cancer.
"He has already taken seven chemotherapies. There's only one left to take," Majharul said.
His last chemo will start on Jan 19, he added.
Humayun is being treated at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
It is believed his new position at the Bangladesh mission at UN will allow the writer to claim state funding for his medical expenses.
