Celebrating Baishakh in a different way

'Pahela Baishakh', the first day of the Bangla calendar, was celebrated on Thursday, but Sitesh Ranjan Deb, a wildlife lover, chose to do it on Friday in his own way.

Moulvibazar, Apr 15 (bdnews24.com) — 'Pahela Baishakh', the first day of the Bangla calendar, was celebrated on Thursday, but Sitesh Ranjan Deb, a wildlife lover, chose to do it on Friday in his own way.
Sitesh organised a function at the Lauchhara National Park on the second day of Bangla month of Baishakh with Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman as its chief guest.
On t he occasion, Atiur released some wild animals from Sitesh's Mini Zoo in the park.
The animals included a python, a Bengal Slow Loris, locally known as Lajjabati Banor, two civets and a night heron.
Sitesh told bdnews24.com that he collected a good number of wild animals held by people in different parts of the country.
Some of the animal he recovered were injured, and he took care of them at his mini zoo.
His son, Sajal Deb, also director of the zoo, told bdnews24.com that the step was taken to celebrate the Bengali New Year 1418. "I'm very proud of being able to help the animals go back to the nature on such a memorable day."
Deputy commissioner of the district Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman and police superintendent Mohammad Harun-ur Rashid were also present on the occasion.
