Gopalganj, Mar 29 (bdnews24.com) β€” A local court has granted bail to Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman in a defamation case.
Judge Dilip Kumar Bhowmik of Senior Judicial Magistrates' Court of the district granted the bail on Tuesday.
Earlier, Mahmudur appeared before the court and appealed for bail.
On Monday, an arrest warrant in the case was issued against Mahmudur, Dainik Destiny's Kotalipara correspondent H M Mehedi Hasnat and fortnightly 'Matrimukti' acting editor Jahangir Hossain Sheikh.
Hasnat and Sheikh, however, did not appear before the court on Tuesday.
On May 12 last year, local lawyer Delwar Hossain Sarder filed the case following a report published in the Amar Desh titled 'Kotalipara Awami League's top leaders and their relatives on the list of war criminals' on Apr 25 in the same year.
Mahmudur was released on Mar 17 after he served seven months in jail.
The Supreme Court on August 19 sentenced him to six months' imprisonment and fined Tk 1 lakh, ruling that he needed to serve one month more in prison in case of failure to pay the fine.
He faces 49 cases, including many on defamation charges.
