Fund crunch forces govt to revert to 2pc tax
The finance ministry has written to the ministry of local government asking it to increase the tax on land and wealth registration to 2% - a reversal of a decision last month that the tax should be reduced to1%, reports Asif Showkat. This decision has been brought about due to lack of funds at the local government level.
Re-rolling foundry workers to get increased wages
The Minimum Wage Board has agreed to increase the minimum wage of nearly one million foundry and re-rolling industry workers, Kazi Azizul Islam reports. The current Tk900 minimum wage of an unskilled worker in a re-rolling mill set in 1994 will rise to Tk6100 following the government's agreement.
