Dhaka, Feb 13 (bdnews24.com) - Police Tuesday night arrested prominent folk singer Mujib Pardeshi from the capital on fraud charges, police said.
Police said they acted on complaints from Abul Khayer Swapan who claimed to have paid Pardeshi more than eight lakh takas to send him abroad with job.
Swapan, of Kosba thana, Brammanbaria, filed a case Monday with Tejgaon police. Shyampur police arrested him from his sister's home at city's East Jurain and handed him to Tejgaon officers.
Sub-Inspector Joinal Abedin who's investigating told bdnews24.com: "We will take him to court tomorrow (Wednesday) and seek time for questioning."
Pardeshi, who rose to prominence in the 1980s after a series of hit singles, has at least 500 audio albums to his credit.
His track for all-time hit Beder Meye Josna shot him into fame.
His popularity with the Bangladeshi diaspora makes him a frequent visitor abroad. The latest allegation relates to one of such trips.
