WFP awards 7 journalists

The World Food Programme (WFP) awarded seven journalists Monday for their contribution to raising awareness about food security, hunger and nutrition.

Dhaka, Nov 6 (bdnews24.com) – The World Food Programme (WFP) awarded seven journalists Monday for their contribution to raising awareness about food security, hunger and nutrition.
The UN food agency announced the media awards at a press conference at the National Press Club.
Khawaza Main Uddin of the English-language daily New Age won the first prize while Md Ashraf Ali of the Bengali-language daily Naya Diganta stood second in the print media category.
Talat Mamun of ntv got the first prize and Shykh Seraj of Channel i won the second in the electronic media category.
F Shahjahan won a special award in the print media category published from outside Dhaka while Rafiq Sarker of The Daily Star and Karamot Ullah Biplob of Channel 1 won special awards in the print and electronic media categories respectively.
Veteran Journalist Obaidul Huq, chief guest at the prize giving ceremony, said a strong bondage between media and development partners could help formulate policies to deal with food security issues.
Douglas Broderick, WFP Representative in Bangladesh, said the awards would encourage the media professionals to report on food security issues to benefit the ultra-poor people.
Penny Davis, senior Infrastructure and Livelihoods Adviser of DFID, attended the ceremony as special guest.
